Typographic Project

This work is in response to a Typography and Poster brief we were set by uni. The brief was to design and create a typeface and a poster utilizing the typeface.

I really like the art movements from the beginning of the 20th Century so I decided to create a Dada-esque typeface. I tried to reference each glyph from typefaces that would have been is use during the time of the Dada Art movement and with a few exceptions managed to. I’m quite pleased with the outcome.

Here are a set of fridge Dada fridge magnets created by me from my typeface. The magnets are designed as introductory media to be sent to prospective employers.

Here is a piece of stencil/photo-montage work I did for a project during my foundation course. The brief was a self written brand and promotion brief for fictional dance producers and DJs Communist Party. I find the idea of one of history’s most ruthless tyrants being a rave Dj quite funny.

FCUK Fashion Hounds

These dogs were created as a solution to a D&AD branding brief for the French Connection sub-brand, FCUK. Dogs are considered by certain celebrities as being the ultimate fashion accessory, just look at Paris Hilton and her Chihuahua, so why can’t dogs communicate fashion themselves? The younger FCUK dogs communicate the essence and style of the FCUK brand, whilst the older French Connection dogs demonstrate how the FCUK sub-brand relates to the main French Connection brand. The brand campaign would have longevity as a near infinite combination of dog and accessory could be created.

Faber Film Print on Demand Book Covers

These book covers were designed as a response to a D&AD typography brief asking to design a series of book covers that would be suitable for Faber Faber’s, Faber Film print on demand service. The print on demand service is exactly as it sounds – books are printed when ordered in short runs to help keep costs down and to enable a huge back catalog of publications to be available.

There maybe no strong concept behind the designs but I believe my solution answered the brief solidly. The template for each sub-genre is the same through out, providing a good template for each cover and keeping the identity of the covers constant across the range, whilst the colour separates them from one another i.e blue for screenplays, green for technique and grey for film history. Simple designs help with easy, cost effective printing and are designed to be printed on satin or matte paper stock with the option of having the text spot varnished.

La Vitrine Culturelle, Montreal: Interactive lightwall

I came across this impressive interactive light wall whilst researching for an essay on interactive art installations. I imagine many of you have seen it before, but for those who haven’t it is the exterior wall for the ticket office, box office and cultural window that is ‘La Vitrine’ and was designed and created by The Moment Factory – a company specializing in multimedia environments. The wall is made up of 35,000 LED bulbs and uses tracking devises to create different visualisations depending upon the presence and movement of people or viewers. For instance somebody walks past the wall, the wall senses there presence and direction of travel and puts up a display of arrows travelling in the same direction as the person walking past. The viewer stops and changes direction and the arrows follow suit. It’s certainly one of the most impressive interactive installations I have seen. I would certainly like to see and experience it for my self.

Hi and welcome to the Adam Jones Design blog. I will be using this blog to show my work to the design community as well as sharing design and art that i like, and hope you will too. I am currently studying Visual Communication at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, specializing in Brand and Graphic Communication. This is my final year so will be looking for work placements, internships and paid employment very soon.

I welcome comments and criticism of my work so if you have any comments that would benefit me in my work please feel free to leave free to leave them.
